Days 4!Fly away from Medan to Bandung. A visit to Bandung @ Indonesia will not complete without a volcano run @ the Tangkuban Parahu or literally translated as capsized boat due to its bizarre shape like an capsized boat when view from the city of Bandung.
Tangkuban Parahu has an altitude of about 2,084 m above sea level at its peak and is located about 30km north or an hour drive through the narrow-winding roads from the City of Bandung. Visitors can still see the steaming gases that continue spewing out from its three craters or kawah in Indonesia. The view from the edge of the Queen Crater is awesome with steaming gases spewing out from its crater floor. The feeling of standing less than a meter from an active volcano crater is real exhilarating but I start to hate the 17 mm lens as it is just not wide enough on a 1.6 crop DSLR to fully capture the panoramic view of the huge Queen Crater. Make sure you bring an ultra wide angle lens of at least 10mm or best on a full frame DSLR :P
The amazing thing for a driving fanatic like me about Tangkuban Parahu is, you can drive into the volcano crater and get your ass steam :P Okay. not into the volcano crater itself but at least close to it.The panoramic view can be awesome beyond comprehension on a reasonably clear day!
I though it was amazing experience watching the unending mountain ranges liken to a gigantic sea waves greeting you in the morning glory is real hard to describe. Again, don't forgot the ultra wide angle lens to fully capture the awesome panoramic view! :) I'm probably turn crazywith the almost unending rows of shopping stalls. Guy, make sure you bring millions of cash, Rupiah lah of course :P as credit cards, not matter how famous it is, will not be accepted here :D
You can find all kind of merchandise a tourist can imagine, souvenirs, sweaters, bags, necklaces, precious stones, stationeries, natural skin care products from volcano mud, sulfur ash, natural insect repellants from plants and many kind of medicinal herbs. Colorful hand knitted scarves, hats, gloves and socks which you may need it as the temperature at the Tangkuban Parahu range between 10 to 20 deg. Celsius, according one of the peddler there. After that we went back to Malaysia.
